I have always been fascinated by the country with its many fjords and small islands. Unfortunately, I hadn’t heard much about the country at school or elsewhere. Only a brief explanation of the climate zones and that was it.
After my first trip to Norway in 2021, also from that later, I fell in love with the country all the more. I simply like it.
I feel I’ve arrived there somehow, I can even say I’m at home somehow. I don’t know how to describe it. It’s just an incredible feeling. I have travelled to many countries, but nowhere have I had such a feeling. It’s really strange and also confusing.
I am totally enthusiastic about the Hurtigruten. After the reunification of Germany, I saw many documentaries on TV. The travel reports about the mail ships impressed me so much that I knew I had to make a trip like that. Large cruise ships are absolutely not my thing. The Hurtigruten mailboats, on the other hand, I like very much. You can feel the life and the atmosphere on board is informal, friendly, even familiar.
When someone asks me what I would like to experience, I don’t have to think long.
I would love to do a whole voyage (north and/or south) on a Hurtigruten ship, but not as a passenger, but as part of the crew. I’d love to help out with loading and unloading, lifeboat safety tests and everything else that goes with it, and also look over the captain’s shoulder. That would be an absolutely unforgettable highlight. It’s probably not possible, but you can dream.
What I would also like to do on my next trip to Norway is more feasible. It just depends on the right planning.
It’s having coffee with my nice Instagram friend and his colleagues who also post nicely from time to time. I’m curious to see what they’re all like in real life. The chats and messages so far have always been good and sometimes funny. There have been some laughing smileys sent back and forth. That they write from time to time makes me very happy. Through the chats I have learned many Norwegian words, whether I can pronounce them all correctly, I don’t know, but I can write and read them. It’s best if I take a big pad of paper with me when I have my coffee, then I can write everything down.
